In the New Years Eve, Arab superstar Saoud Abou Sultan held a concert at the Movenpick hotel, Sana’a. He dazzled the audience with a collection of his best songs accompanied by his own band in the Grand Ballroom. Sultan expressed his great pleasure at holding a concert in Yemen, during a press conference on the 30th December, he said ‘although this is his first visit to Yemen he had heard much about the country from friends and insisted that this would not be his last’.

According to Sultan, Yemeni music is one of the oldest music in the Arabian peninsula and it is the root of many of the gulf music, he said he would love to record an Adenine song for his next album which is due for release this coming September. When Sultan was asked about the reasons of the long time he taken in preparing his albums he referred to the bad state of the Arabian arts nowadays and said it is important for the singer to take time to choose his songs carefully.

On the situation in Gaza, Sultan said he didn’t want to sing a sad song for Gaza because the people there suffer enough and he could not sing a triumph song because the Arabs are not in a wining situation and they will not be anytime soon, he believed a much greater gesture would be to donate the incomes of concerts to the Palestinian people.

According to him, before the Superstar experience he had seen some popularity in Dubai and at that time of participating in the talent show he never imagined that he or the show would be a success. It was such uncertainty that led to his lack of excitement at the start but he added that he was extremely grateful for such experience. He praised the show and its management and said that the team had taken great care of participants and supported them throughout production because the system of voting used in the show brought in money through text voting. In the early days of talent shows participants knew very little about the mechanics of the show or the industry but today the new participants know everything.

He also commented on his duet with Mecayla and how he had not been satisfied with the experience and he felt he had dealt an injustice to her because of their voice incompatibility.

Sultan’ brother who was with him told the journalists a story about Sultans childhood and how he won first place in a talent show for singers at the age of only eight years old and how the press called him the miracle kid at that time.

At the end of the press conference Mr. Mohammed Dawood, the sales manger at the Movenpick hotel expressed his pleasure on behalf of the entire Movenpick crew at hosting a superstar like Sultan and asked him to consider the Movenpick hotel as his second home.
