Yemeni author Lamia al-Eryani has broken the silence of women, and sails inside the deep, hidden emotions of not only Yemeni women, but of women in general. Her words, metaphors and feeling have penetrated the hearts of readers, and have become etched in their memories, especially those of women readers who feel as though they are reading words written about them in a one-way or another.

The Whisper of my Memory (Hams Thakeraty) was the perfect name for al-Eryani’s first collection of prose and poems, which was released at the al-Afif Cultural Foundation on Tuesday January 27. The author stood proudly and full of happiness with her husband, sister and friends, and she expressed her thanks to al-Afif Cultural Foundation as she began to read some selected pieces from her collection.

Known Yemeni author Dr. Nadia al-Kokanany shared the stage with al-Eryani, praising her work and welcoming her to Yemen’s creative scene. She added that al-Eryani is the first Yemeni writer who risked writing prose and poems in the same collection. Through the forty-three texts in this collection, al-Kokanany confirmed the beauty of the repeated word (Memory), which was repeated seventy two times from twenty seven texts, plus mentioned twice in the headlines.

Author Raya Ahmed and vice-chairwomen at the Supreme National Authority for Combating Corruption Dr. Bilkis Abu Osba, and Mr. Abdul-Bary Taher praised al-Eryani’ work, and asked her to continue her efforts.
